Goa: A Wedding Paradise
Goa Tourism hosts the first of its kind Goa Wedding Carnival next month to highlight Goa’s potential as the top Indian destination for that fairytale wedding.
Once a simple beach retreat, Goa has emerged as the perfect destination for a bespoke wedding. With a stunning coastline and a multitude of options ranging from little white churches, historic temples and majestic forts that serve as a picturesque backdrop for that fairytale wedding, the wedding tourism market in Goa is definitely on the rise.
From simple ceremonies in a laidback and relaxed ambience on the beach to elaborate ceremonies at five-star hotels, Goa offers a range of luxury hotels, tourist spaces, weekend resorts and other wedding venues to fit a variety of budgets and themes. To tap into this market that holds great potential and in order to strengthen the state’s presence within the segment, Goa Tourism has decided to host its first Goa Wedding Carnival on the 16th, 17th and 18th of August at The Grand Hotel, New Delhi.
The Goa Wedding Carnival 2014 aims at boosting tourism in the state by tapping into the wedding market. Exhibitors will include wedding planners, hoteliers, caterers, event managers, vendors, fashion designers, spas, travel agencies, photographers/videographers, hair and make-up artistes and artiste managers. Through this exhibit, the organisers hope to increase trade opportunities for local vendors in Goa.
Says Dilip Parulekar, Minister of Tourism, Government of Goa: “The Indian wedding market is valued at $38 billion a year and is expected to grow 25-30 per cent annually. We hope that this initiative will serve as a platform to bring together the best of Goa and showcase what makes the state such a viable wedding destination.” The Goa Wedding Carnival will serve as the ultimate platform, connecting and providing access to potential clients from across the country as well as showcasing Goa as the ideal wedding destination.
Also known for its spectacular architectural heritage and soul-soothing beaches, Goa’s emergence as one of India’s finest wedding destinations can be attributed to its plethora of scenic backdrops. Imagine exchanging vows during sunset, overlooking a pristine beach on one side, lush greenery on the other. Nothing makes for a more picture perfect wedding day ambience.
Divided into two districts, South Goa is ideal for people who like a bit of peace and serenity. This area offers scenic views with vast open spaces, secluded beaches, lush gardens and natural waterfalls. On the other hand, the touristy yet charming North Goa is more suitable for a younger wedding party, with lush green paddy fields, historical forts, temples and churches, verdant hills and picturesque beaches forming the backdrop for a fun-filled celebration. Couples who love bustling activity and nightlife would enjoy the amazing attractions in this area.
Goa attracts people for different reasons and one of the foremost among these is: Celebration. The culture of Goa shows undeniable borrowings from its colonial past, the vibe of Goa is still inherently Portuguese which is reflected in the happy, relaxed attitude of its people. The people of this state have an infectious spirit which makes Goa a popular venue for practically any kind of celebration.
