Restaurateur Nico Goghavala and Kamal Sidhu’s offering in South Mumbai opened amidst much hype with promises of fresh ingredients, organic produce and farm-to-table innovations.
Tucked away in a cosy corner of the bustling street near the Bombay Stock Exchange, the high ceiling and serene quietude of Nico Bombay envelopes you as you peruse the menu which even though is just a single leaflet has quite a few dishes you’d like to try out.
The range for the vegetarian consumer is sizeable, and we were informed that there are two different menus for lunch and dinner. The former including more salads and sandwiches—a quick lunch format keeping in mind the working clientele.
In no pressing hurry since we were here for dinner, we took our time sipping the Grilled Lime Margarita—a tweaked version of the classic that was delectable, as was the melt-in-the-mouth Pulled Goat, Red Onion and Confit Tomato in Pita mezze. Neapolitan Flat Bread, or in other words ‘pizza’, stuck to its promises of delivering a fresh, hand-kneaded offering from the wood-fired oven.
However, the main course and dessert were disappointing, with the beef fillet not cooked according to specifications and the White Chocolate Amoretti Cheesecake could have been a tad less sweet.
